Job Description
- Trains challenged individuals by serving and providing independent living skills in their own residence.
- Trains and supervises individuals in the development/enhancement of independent living skills in major areas such as nutrition, meal planning and preparation, household skills, clothing maintenance, personal grooming and hygiene, money skills, recreational and social skills, safety, travel training, sexuality training, self- advocacy, and others.
- Responsible for the safety and well-being of the individuals.
- Transports individuals in a vehicle to appointments, shopping, recreational activities, and others as needed.
Qualifications
- Must be able to accompany and supervise individuals on appointments, community activities, recreational events, etc.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Related work, volunteer, or educational experience required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Upon employment, must pass all mandatory Division of Developmental Disabilities training and maintain current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR training.
Support Brokers for all counties of New Jersey.
Job Description
- This contracted position supports people in directing their own services through the provision of support broker services to those with intellectual challenges who are authorized to use New Jersey’s Self-Directed Services. The Support Broker provides information, guidance, and technical assistance to the individual so that he/she can access, organize, and utilize opportunities, resources, and services necessary to live a self-determined life.
- Services are designed to provide assistance as needed with employer-related functions, planning, and accessing community resources, services, and support continuity and maintenance.
- The Support Broker’s responsibilities vary depending on the choice and preferences of each individual participant, who are acting as an employer of record or managing employer. Additionally, the intensity of the support provided may range from teaching skills to performing a task for the individual.
- The individual and/or her or his surrogate select who they will work with as a Support Broker will determine the Support Broker’s duties and scope of work. The individual participants and/or their surrogates make their own decisions and cannot be forced or expected to accept the Support Broker’s recommendations.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- One year experience in a management position with human resources responsibilities OR has a degree in Human Resources.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record AND a reliable means of transportation.
- Demonstration of the following abilities:
- Function within a participative management structure;
- Self-direct work;
- Work effectively as a member of a team;
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
- Working knowledge and application of basic employment law, principles of self-determination, person-centered thinking and planning; and
- Use the training offered to meet the unique needs of the individual supported including her/his behavioral, communication, and mobility needs.
Interpreter for American Sign Language and Non-American Sign Language.

- For sign language interpretation – successfully passed the New Jersey Division of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DDHH) Screening OR Certified by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
